CLR #3: Managing Up
In this meetup, we discussed the core principles of effectively managing “up” within our organizations:
- Be specific
- Put in the thought time
- Come with solutions
- Ask for clarity
- Make the business case
- Disagree agreeably
- Manager their time and yours well
- No surprises

This was really helpful. I had a sit-down with my manager to talk through some stuff this week. Several of these came up as opportunities. Additionally, I have started reading “Everyone Deserves A Great Manager” by Scott Miller (thanks for the recommendation Todd). It has helped me define specific action items to implement for these 8 things, specifically the 1-on-1 meeting format.
